SPOILER
Pierre Falardeau kills off Bob Gratton at the end of the film, but popular pressure brought the character back years later in Elvis Gratton II: Miracle à Memphis. From then on Elvis Gratton became a brand and somewhat mortgaged Julien Poulin's acting career.- Pierre Falardeau, a committed sovereignist, reworked the project out of the disappointment felt after the 1980 Quebec referendum, turning it into Bob Gratton, a Brossard garage owner who admired the Rockies and embodied everything Falardeau symbolically hated.
- Bob Gratton's deliberately wrong pronunciation of "Américains" as "Amaricains" stayed rooted in popular Quebec speech, a mark of the character's lasting influence on the province's culture.
- The character started out as a parking-lot attendant leading a double life as an Elvis Presley impersonator, invented when Radio-Québec offered Pierre Falardeau and Julien Poulin fiction short films to make in the early 1980s.
- Elvis Gratton: Le King des kings is not an original feature: it stitches together three earlier short films, the hit Elvis Gratton and its two follow-ups, Les Vacances d'Elvis Gratton and Pas encore Elvis Gratton!.
