Plot summary
In eleventh-century England, King Edward the Confessor orders Lord Leofric, ruler of Coventry, to marry a Norman woman named Yolanda. Leofric refuses the match and is jailed, and there he meets Godiva, whose brother is the sheriff. The two fall in love and marry. Godiva proves a militant bride in turbulent times, as the Saxon populace and the growing Norman influence in England clash.

- Maureen O'Hara shot Lady Godiva's famous ride on a closed set, wearing a leotard with her long hair covering the rest of her body; director Arthur Lubin said he was inspired by the Landseer painting.
- Jeff Chandler was replaced by George Nader shortly before filming began: Chandler was still making Foxfire, due to finish a day before Godiva was to start, and wanted a break. Nader had earlier replaced Chandler on Five Rivers to Cross after Chandler was suspended in a contract dispute.
- Lex Barker was reportedly going to play the male lead, but Maureen O'Hara objected, saying audiences would only see him as Tarzan, so Jeff Chandler was signed instead.
- Arthur Lubin took the directing job on Lady Godiva of Coventry against his wishes, saying the studio would have suspended him if he refused.
