Plot summary
Antoine Brisebard writes comedy plays and is short of money. He is selling his country villa to a couple from England, and he also pays hush money to a criminal known only as Jo. The blackmail concerns Sylvie, Brisebard's wife, a well-known actress whose father was a robber and a murderer. Jo comes often to collect, and Brisebard, facing ruin, decides to do away with him. He pretends to be writing a crime play and asks Colas, an attorney and a friend, how a corpse can best be disposed of. Tonelotti, a landscaper, offers to build a pavilion in the garden, and its foundation looks like the perfect place to hide a body.
