Plot summary
Fantômas is a criminal who hides behind a supply of masks and makeup, able to step into any face he chooses; each new appearance leaves the police with nothing to hold on to. The newspaperman Fandor prints an interview with him that was never granted, and the thief takes offense. He takes Fandor prisoner and demands that the journalist admit the fabrication. When Fandor refuses, Fantômas answers by wearing Fandor's own face to carry out a jewel robbery. The earnest Commissaire Paul Juve of the police takes up the case, pursuing a culprit who can appear as anyone, and the chase pulls in Fandor's girlfriend Hélène.
