Plot summary
In 1969, fourteen-year-old Charlie Bucktin lives in the rural town of Corrigan. His best friend is Jeffrey Lu, a Vietnamese boy whose family faces constant race hate. Eliza Wishart, the mayor's daughter and Laura's younger sister, grows increasingly endeared towards Charlie. On Christmas evening Jasper Jones, an outcast in Corrigan because of his Aboriginal heritage, comes to Charlie for help. He leads Charlie to a glade in the bush, where Charlie finds the body of Laura, Jasper's girlfriend. Jasper, fearing he will be blamed, persuades Charlie to hide the body in a nearby pond.
