Plot summary
Jill Conway was taken a year ago in Portland, Oregon, by a serial killer who kept her among the bodies of his victims in a grave. Because she had spent time in an institution, the police dismissed her account. She now holds a job at the Lucky Star Diner, where a regular customer leaves a large tip for her and her coworker Sharon, and she shares a home with her sister Molly. One morning, coming back from her shift, she finds Molly gone. She goes to the police, who again doubt her, apart from Detective Hood, a recent addition to the homicide department. Jill is convinced that the man who once held her has come back for revenge.
