Marian Seldes

Marian Seldes was an American actress who trained for the stage at the Neighborhood Playhouse and first appeared on Broadway in Medea in 1948. Nominated for five Tony Awards, she won in 1967 for A Delicate Balance and was later cited for Father's Day, Deathtrap, Ring Round the Moon and Dinner at Eight; Father's Day also earned her a Drama Desk Award. She performed in all 1,809 Broadway showings of Deathtrap, and her other Broadway credits included Equus, Ivanov and Deuce. She moved into television in 1952 with a Hallmark Hall of Fame production and appeared in 179 episodes of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater between 1974 and 1982. For Folkways Records she recorded albums of literature, and she taught drama at Juilliard from 1967 to 1991. In 1995 she joined the American Theater Hall of Fame, and in 2010 she received a special Tony Award for lifetime achievement. She appeared in Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life (2011).
