Plot summary
A camping trip in the Oklahoma forests goes wrong for Polly Watt and Seth Belzer when Dennis Farell, an escaped convict, and his girlfriend Lacey Belisle force them out of their car and take it. A flat tire stops the SUV, and the four take shelter in an isolated gas station, where the pump attendant has already been attacked by an animal carrying an unknown organism that pushes out large, protruding splinters. The organism spreads through the bodies of the living, and the station offers no way out. Seth, Polly, Dennis and Lacey are left to work out how to survive it.

- Director Toby Wilkins built the infected creature's broken, jerking movement out of several different bodies: he cast a gymnast, a mime and a stunt performer to choreograph it between them, and kept most of the effects practical rather than digital.
