Plot summary
The story is told in three chapters, called transmissions, each following a different character. Mya is married to Lewis but seeing Ben, who asks her to leave the city with him; she gives him no answer either way. She leaves with a compact disc he gave her. In a parking garage, men acting strangely menace her, and the building she lives in is in chaos. A static-like interference carried by phones, radios and televisions has amplified people's negative traits, making many of them irrational and violent, and it affects each person differently. At the apartment, Lewis and his friends Jerry and Rod are trying to fix a television.
