Plot summary
Josef Locke, an Irish tenor, left Britain for Ireland twenty-five years ago to avoid the tax authorities and police Chief Jim Abbott. He also left behind Cathleen Doyle, the woman he loved. Cathleen's daughter Nancy is involved with Micky O'Neill, who is trying to save both his failing Liverpool nightclub, Heartly's, and their relationship. Micky tells his customers that Locke will sing at the club. After a string of bookings that go wrong, among them Franc Cinatra, a Sinatra impersonator, he engages a man calling himself Mr. X, who will not be billed as Joe Locke because of the legal trouble it would bring.
