Plot summary
Karaoke bars across the country fill in the week before a contest in Omaha with a $5,000 prize. Ricky Dean makes his living on the circuit, feigning indifference before winning contests and side bets. A call sends him to Las Vegas for an ex's funeral, where he meets Liv, the daughter he has not seen in years. She wants a father and follows him on the road despite his objections. Todd Woods, a salesman worn down by constant travel, walks out on his wife Candy and their children. Drifting through New Mexico, he wanders into a karaoke bar, then gives a ride to hitchhiker Reggie Kane, a fugitive with a remarkable voice. In Cincinnati, cab driver Billy Hannan, who once aspired to the priesthood, agrees to drive broke drifter Suzi Loomis to California, stopping at contests along the way.
