Plot summary
Miranda Presley, an aspiring singer and songwriter, leaves New York City for a career in country music. She takes a bus to Nashville, Tennessee, hoping to become a star, and goes to the Bluebird Café, a bar with a reputation for showcasing new talent. She arrives too late for that week's auditions, but the owner, Lucy, gives her a waitress job. When the café holds its second week of auditions, Miranda has met other newcomers: Kyle Davidson, a sweet, open-hearted musician from Connecticut; James Wright, a moody but talented musician from Texas; and Linda Lue Linden, a spirited young woman from Alabama. Linda Lue persuades Miranda to share her motel room, which Linda Lue's mother helps pay for. The four friends try to find their place in Nashville's competitive music scene. Both Kyle and James are attracted to Miranda.
