Shirley Anne Field

Shirley Anne Field was an English actress whose stage, film and television career began in 1955. She took a modeling course at the Lucie Clayton agency and worked as a photographic model before the agent Bill Watts obtained early British film roles for her. Horrors of the Black Museum (1959) gave her a first substantial screen role. In 1960 Tony Richardson cast her as Tina Lapford in The Entertainer, and she played Doreen in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, the New Wave hit that became her best known part. She also appeared in Beat Girl (1960) and starred in Man in the Moon (1960) opposite Kenneth More, and took the female lead in The War Lover (1962) and Kings of the Sun (1963). Her other screen credits included Alfie (1966), The Damned, House of the Living Dead (1974), My Beautiful Laundrette (1985), Shag (1989), The Rachel Papers (1989), Hear My Song (1991) and The Kid (2010). She died in 2023.
