Plot summary
Jamie Ackerman, Kirstin, Marco and Justin take a boat to Cuttyhunk Island, where Jamie's father once led a project that used microscopic parasites to push human evolution forward. Test subjects on the island grew stronger, sharper and healthier, until the work went wrong in 1989 and three quarters of the residents were lost. Jamie is troubled by memories of what the project did to her family. Larkin Holberman, a scientist from those years, tells her that her inheritance of Cuttyhunk is about to slip away. A parasite enters Justin, and his senses sharpen far beyond the ordinary. Kirstin runs back to Jamie and Marco with the news that something is wrong with him.
