Plot summary
Two weeks before Christmas, June Cheshire, who has had cancer for over three years, collapses at home and is taken to hospital. Her husband Bernie and son Connor are with her, and Connor calls his sisters, Julia and Molly, who live in the area. The eldest sister, Helen, flies back from Germany. Doctors tell the family that June's cancer has progressed quickly and she may not survive until Christmas. The children gather at the hospital, and the strain among them shows: Julia and Molly argue, Connor is uncertain, Helen keeps her distance, and Bernie says little. June wants to stay at the hospital for now.

- The story grew out of Kate Winslet's own grief: her mother died of ovarian cancer in 2017, and the screenplay was written by her son Joe Anders at 19, during a screenwriting course at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield.
- For a more intimate atmosphere on set, Winslet used unconventional methods such as putting small microphones on the actors instead of traditional boom equipment.
