Fisayo Akinade
Biography
Fisayo Akinade is an English actor who started out in Manchester theater before training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Born in Liverpool and raised in Fallowfield and Moss Side in Manchester, he attended drama classes at the Contact Theatre and joined its Young Actors Company. His television breakthrough came in 2015 with the lead role of Dean Monroe in Cucumber, Russell T Davies's Channel 4 drama, and its spinoffs Banana and Tofu. On screen he appeared in The Girl with All the Gifts (2016) and in Goodbye June (2025). His stage work includes Flute in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Mercutio in a National Theatre Romeo and Juliet made for television. He plays the teacher Nathan Ajayi in Heartstopper and was nominated for the Ian Charleson Award in 2014, winning third prize in 2016.

Akinade won third prize at the 2016 Ian Charleson Award for playing The Dauphin in the Donmar Warehouse production of Saint Joan, behind Paapa Essiedu and Jessica Brown Findlay, and in 2025 he became a judge of that award.
