Plot summary
Ray has been away from his hometown for twelve years. He comes back to visit his dying father, and he uses the trip to reconnect with Alice, his ex-partner, and with Abbie, their daughter. Alice is in a relationship with Frank McGunn, Ray's former P.E. teacher. Frank trains Abbie with a sports-themed self-help DVD he has made, and she wants to become an athlete. Ray has nowhere to live and drives around with an abandoned couch tied to the roof of his car.
