Plot summary
Caesar is long dead, and apes now dominate the planet while the people who remain have grown feral. Noa is a young chimpanzee in a clan of falconers, preparing for a rite that marks his coming of age by collecting eagle eggs. A human scavenger trails him home and, in a struggle, breaks the egg he has gathered. Searching for a replacement, Noa runs into ape raiders carrying electric staffs; they track his horse to the village. He comes back to find it in flames and his clan gone, and he sets out to bring them home. Raka, an orangutan, joins him and speaks of Caesar.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- To prepare for the role, Owen Teague studied how chimpanzees move and spend their days, and was drawn to a specific chimp named Bentley; it was Bentley's curious nature that inspired how Teague developed the character of Noa.
- For an action sequence in which humans are hunted on rivers, the visual effects team reused techniques from Avatar: The Way of Water, because the CG ape models built from motion-capture performances had to look realistic while interacting with water.
- Composer John Paesano, who had worked with Wes Ball on the Maze Runner trilogy, incorporated Jerry Goldsmith's original themes from the 1968 film into the score, describing it as "the musical legacy".
