Plot summary
George Gideon, a chief inspector at Scotland Yard, is reminded by his wife Kate that their daughter Sally has a violin recital that evening and that relatives are coming to tea first. An informant tells him one of his own detectives has taken bribes, and he suspends the man. Driving Sally to the Royal College of Music, he is stopped by a constable for running a red light. Word also reaches him of a gang robbing payrolls and of a patient who may be traveling from Manchester to London.
