Derek Bond

Derek Bond was a British actor whose career took in film, stage, and television. Born in Glasgow, he was educated in London and got his first experience in 1938 with the Finchley Amateur Dramatic Society. His conventional good looks helped him win dramatic parts and light comedy roles, and he earned attention for the title role in the Ealing Studios production Nicholas Nickleby (1947). He also wrote scripts, including the play Akin to Death, which he wrote in 1954 and toured the following year. His first television drama was Unscheduled Stop, an ITV Armchair Theatre production from 1968 directed by Toby Robertson. In 1985 he played Prince Leopold Maria in a Sadler's Wells Theatre production of Kálmán's The Gypsy Princess. From 1984 to 1986 he served as president of the actors' union Equity.
