Plot summary
Jess and Ben go out together, and the evening turns into the best first date of Jess's life. Driving home, she is texting at the wheel, and the distraction leads to a car accident. Jess comes back as a ghost, unable to work out how to reach the afterlife. Almost nobody can see or hear her; her best friend Kara can. Kara becomes the one person Jess can talk to, and together they set out to settle the unfinished business that keeps her from moving on. Jess's mother Deb and Kara's girlfriend Mae, Ben's sister, are among those she can no longer reach.
