Plot summary
Greg Heffley records his days in a diary, expecting to be rich and famous one day. Middle school turns out to be full of hazards: the boys' bathroom has no stall doors, and finding a place to sit at lunch is a struggle. In physical education he and his best friend, Rowley Jefferson, slip away from a flag football game and run into Angie Steadman, a seventh-grader who keeps to herself. Chirag Gupta, a classmate, warns them that the moldy cheese on the ground carries the Cheese Touch, a social curse that passes to anyone the cursed person taps. Greg's aim for the year is a spot in the yearbook as Class Clown.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The moldy cheese central to the film's Cheese Touch was a real square of cheese left outdoors for a few days in a wire cage that kept animals out and sunlight in, before a silicone replica with CGI mold was made for filming.
- The film opened to $22.1 million, the biggest start ever for a non-animated, non-fantasy children's book adaptation, taking more in three days than adaptations such as How to Eat Fried Worms and Hoot managed in their entire runs.
- The film's animated diary sequences look hand-drawn but were actually made using 3D animation first, then rendered through a rough sketch shader to give them a 2D appearance.
