Plot summary
Malo Maldonado's father, an NYPD officer, was killed. On the night Malo and his friends Shady and Lucas finish cadet school, Captain Joe Sarcone invites Malo into his squad of corrupt undercover officers; Sarcone was his father's partner, and the memory of the killing still haunts Malo. Malo also carries unfinished matters: Cyn, a former girlfriend, and an assistant district attorney's widow who used her influence to get him onto the force. Sarcone makes him a bag man and an enforcer for the squad, and Malo asks whether his two friends can join too. Malo then learns of Baez, a drug kingpin.
