Plot summary
Fred Figglehorn is fifteen, hyperactive, and unpopular at school, though he thinks highly of his own singing. Judy lives next door, and Fred longs to sing a duet with her. In music class she performs a romantic duet with Kevin, the bully from across the street, who keeps Fred away from her. Fred's several attempts to visit Judy at home come to nothing. His mother then tells him that Judy has moved away. Fred leaves home to search for her new address, set on singing with her when he arrives, and his imaginary muscular father shows up along the way to offer advice and support.

- Screenwriter David Goodman and director Clay Weiner clashed creatively during production, according to the DVD commentary, and Weiner ended up cutting references and callbacks to Fred and related works that Goodman had written into the script.
- Once filming wrapped, the crew held a yard sale in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, to sell off the props, set dressing and costumes used in the shoot.
