Plot summary
Two years after Tom Baker gave up his coaching job, his household is changing: his daughter Lorraine is finishing high school with an internship at Allure magazine in New York City, and his eldest daughter Nora, married to Bud McNulty and expecting a baby, plans to move to Houston. Unhappy at the thought of the family scattering, Tom talks his wife Kate and the children into one last vacation at Lake Winnetka in Wisconsin. There they find Jimmy Murtaugh, Tom's old rival, spending the summer with his wife Sarina and their eight children. Jimmy boasts about his wealth and his children's achievements and suggests Tom's less strict parenting is why he has done less well, and the two fathers agree to settle the argument at the Annual Labor Day Family Cup.
