Plot summary
At home in Maxville, Will Stronghold is the son of Steve and Josie, known to the world as the Commander and Jetstream. He is nervous about his first year at Sky High, the school on a floating campus for teenagers with powers, because his own have not shown up. On the first day, seniors Speed, Lash and Penny harass the freshmen, and Will is drawn to Gwen Grayson, a popular senior. Sorted into the Hero Support program as a sidekick, he is joined by his best friend Layla, who objects to the school's two tracks. Steve shows his son the Secret Sanctum and the Pacifier, a weapon he took from Royal Pain sixteen years earlier. A fight with the pyrokinetic Warren Peace brings out Will's super-strength, and the school moves him into the Hero class.

- Mitchell said the teenage actors on Sky High all had their own trailers and were generally kept separated during the shoot, because he did not want them to date after the second week and break up after the fourth, which would have made filming difficult.
- Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle, the creators of the animated series Kim Possible, had begun writing a live-action adaptation that never came to fruition before filmmakers asked them to rewrite the previously shelved script for Sky High.
