Plot summary

Shane Dalton lives with her mother in Los Angeles and is a vegetarian; her twin sister Lizzie lives with their father in Washington, D.C., and is a driven student. The two have not seen each other in two years, and neither knows the other has applied for The Challenge, a reality show shot in Mexico that tests strength and survival skills, with college scholarships as the prize. Marcus, the show's head intern, learns of their estrangement and tells producer Max, then places both sisters on Team Mayan. Max announces the rules, including a ban on romance between contestants. Shane and Lizzie bicker through the first challenge, and Team Aztec wins the points; teammates Anthony and Justin tell them the team needs them to pull together. Shane grows close to Adam, a contestant on Team Aztec.
