Sean McClory

Biography

Sean McClory was an Irish actor who worked in film, television, and theater for six decades. Born in Dublin and raised in County Galway, he turned to acting after World War II and began on stage at the Abbey Theatre, where he specialized in comedy. After an RKO representative spotted him there, he went to Hollywood in 1947. He became part of John Ford's stock company, appearing in The Quiet Man (1952), The Long Gray Line (1955), and Cheyenne Autumn (1964). His films also included Dick Tracy's Dilemma (1947) and My Chauffeur (1986). On television, he played Captain Clary in Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers, Jack McGivern in The Californians, and Myles in Bring 'Em Back Alive, and he guest-starred in many series such as Perry Mason, Bonanza, and Gunsmoke. He died in 2003.
