Phoebe Nicholls
Biography
Phoebe Nicholls is an English actress who was billed as Sarah Nicholls during her early child performances on film. Her screen credits include Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965), and in her early twenties she took the part of John Merrick's mother in David Lynch's The Elephant Man (1980), appeared in Richard Loncraine's The Missionary (1982), and played Cordelia Flyte in Brideshead Revisited (1981). She went on to appear in Persuasion (1995), Gulliver's Travels (1995), Fairy Tale: A True Story (1997), Shackleton (2002), Hawking (2004), Downton Abbey (2012), and Eric (2024). On stage she performed in Whose Life Is It Anyway?, Three Sisters, An Inspector Calls, Pravda, and Hysteria, and won the Clarence Derwent Award for best supporting female performance as Frances in Waste in 2009.
