Plot summary
Katie Gibbs lives with the Van Ravensways, her adoptive family, and does whatever they ask, afraid that Gail, her stepmother, will put her back into foster care. Gail is headmistress of the Wellesley Academy of the Arts, where Katie studies and where Guy Morgan enrolls his son Luke; Guy is president of Kensington Records. Guy hopes his son will produce a showcase at the school, though Luke is not keen to follow in his father's footsteps. Katie falls for Luke, and her stepsister Bev wants a recording contract with Guy's label, though Bev cannot sing, so Gail means to put Katie's voice behind her. Angela, Katie's friend and a dancer, urges her to sing for Luke at the school's Bollywood Ball.
