Plot summary
In 1980, Harry Barber tells Molly Murphy about a California bank burglary he committed eight years earlier. Back in 1972, Harry lives in a Pennsylvania apartment above a refurbished theater. Enzo Rotella brings him into a plan to burglarize a bank said to hold the illegal political slush fund of President Richard Nixon, along with Paul Callahan, Raymond Darrow and Harry's brother Tommy, a Vietnam War veteran. The crew rents a vacation house near the bank in California, and Harry meets Molly, a widow whose husband died in a car accident, at a bar. He keeps the scheme from her as they grow close. At night the gang disables the bank's alarm system and uses dynamite on the vault roof. Two FBI agents, Howard Lambert and Sharon Price, are assigned to the case.
