Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 1 (2017) on Netflix

Plot summary

Long before Renton's own days aboard the Gekko, his father Adroc Thurston stood at the center of a disaster. Adroc had made a mistake that nobody else could put right, and the mysterious pilot Eureka flew beside him. What the two of them set off changed the world and left Adroc remembered as a hero, though he was gone. A decade afterward, Eureka is in critical condition, and Renton walks away from the Gekko and its crew. Friends of his father take the boy in, offering the family he has always wanted. He must decide whether to remain with them or go after the love he is seeking.
