Plot summary

A century ago the architect Godey built the Space-Time Towers in Alamos Town and wrote down a nightmare in his diary: two beings from separate dimensions would meet in the rift between them, and their clash would bring the town down. His great-grandson, the scientist Tonio, keeps that diary. Ash, Brock and Dawn arrive in Alamos Town for Dawn's next Pokémon Contest, held inside the Towers; the town sits in the middle of a lake, and the tour guide Alice ferries them across by hot air balloon. Palkia, who controls space, and Dialga, who rules time, are brawling between dimensions, and the town feels the shock. A garden is damaged, and Baron Alberto blames Darkrai, a nightmare-causing Pokémon the townsfolk hate.
