Plot summary
Monstrous creatures called Angels keep attacking Tokyo-3, and the U.N. Special Agency NERV meets them with its Evangelion units, giant machines driven by young pilots. Shinji Ikari stays at the controls of Unit-01 while his father Gendo commands the agency. Two new pilots arrive: Mari Illustrious Makinami, who destroys an Angel at an arctic base, and Asuka Langley Shikinami, who comes with Unit-02 and finishes off the next attacker. Ryoji Kaji hands Gendo a suitcase holding the Key of Nebuchadnezzar. Gendo and SEELE carry on with a secret project that involves Rei Ayanami and Shinji, and at a lunar compound Gendo examines the half-built Evangelion Mark.06, an EVA that differs from the rest.
