Plot summary
Vlad Dracula is prince of Wallachia and Transylvania in the 15th century. Trained from a young age as a royal ward of the Ottoman Sultan, he became the empire's most feared warrior before retiring to rule his lands in peace with his wife Mirena and son Ingeras. When he finds an Ottoman helmet in a stream, Vlad suspects an invasion, and a search party in the mountains leads him to a cave where a humanoid creature kills his soldiers. Brother Lucian tells him the creature is a vampire, once a Roman general. At the Easter feast, an Ottoman contingent demands a tribute of a thousand boys, Ingeras among them. Lacking an army to force the Ottomans out, Vlad returns to the mountain to ask the vampire for its power.
