Plot summary

As God tells it, Craig and Trevor are salesmen who chase women, and neither man knows that he has an identical twin, raised apart from him by their divorced parents. A merger of their companies brings them together, and a rivalry turns into recognition when the pair spot matching necklace pendants and matching birthdays. Unhappy with the homes they grew up in, the two hatch a plan to bring their parents back together as a real family. Each disguises himself as his brother and calls on the parent he never met: Craig on Evelyn, their shut-in mother whose vagina fell off and died, and Trevor on Harrison, their father, lately out as gay, who keeps two humanoid mutants, the sewer boys, in a cage at home. The parents' troubles appall both sons.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Dicks: The Musical (2023)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

Most of the vocals for the musical numbers in Dicks: The Musical were recorded live on set, rather than lip-synced to pre-recorded tracks the way musicals usually are.
"The Sewer Song" is a quodlibet, weaving together several melodies in counterpoint, among them "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and "One Day More" from Les Misérables.
Megan Thee Stallion's song "Out Alpha the Alpha" began as a cabaret number and became a rap number, and after she was cast it had to be torn apart and reconceived extremely quickly because there was so little time to rehearse and shoot.
When A24 released Dicks: The Musical in the United States on October 6, 2023, it became the studio's first musical film.
