- Sherie Rene Scott, who originated the role of Cathy in the original Off-Broadway production, appears in one of the film's audition scenes alongside her real-life husband, Kurt Deutsch.
- Betsy Wolfe, who had played Cathy in the show's 2013 Off-Broadway revival, appears in the film in a different part, as the former stripper Cathy rooms with while working in Ohio.
SPOILER
Jeremy Jordan's real-life wife, Ashley Spencer, appears in the film as one of Jamie's affairs, in the song "Nobody Needs to Know".- Composer Jason Robert Brown turns up in the film himself, playing one of the accompanists during Cathy's auditions in the song "Climbing Uphill".
- The film opened in limited release in just three theaters in North America, and grossed $42,042 there in its opening weekend.
