Sonya Eddy

Sonya Eddy was an American actress known for playing Epiphany Johnson, the head nurse on the ABC soap opera General Hospital. Born in Concord, California, she studied theater and dance at the University of California, Davis and earned a B.A. in 1992. Her first acting work came in 1990, in a West Coast production of Ruby Dee's Zora Is My Name. After moving to Los Angeles in 1995, she began appearing in sitcoms including Seinfeld and Murphy Brown. Her film roles included nurse parts in Seven Pounds and Patch Adams, comedic turns in Barbershop and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and a dramatic part in Coach Carter. She joined General Hospital in 2006, stayed until October 2022, and also appeared on the spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift. In 2023, she received a posthumous Daytime Emmy in the drama series supporting actress category. Dicks: The Musical was her final screen appearance.
