Plot summary
The head drilling engineer at a company, Brian Goodman, sabotages the operation because he believes its chief executive, Alan Morrisey, is drilling too deep without the precautions the work needs. Alan restarts the drilling from an island near China. The mole-like machine hits a magma flow, and the Earth's core is left unstable, which threatens earthquakes and other disasters around the world. Alan, Brian and Allison Saunders, head of research and development, look into what the drilling has done.
