Plot summary
Billy Hopkins is caught reading a horror comic, and his father, Stan, throws it into the garbage. The comic's host, the Creep, appears at Billy's window, and five stories follow. In Father's Day, Sylvia Grantham and her relatives gather at the Grantham estate for their annual dinner, where the family recounts Bedelia's history with her father, Nathan. The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill follows a gas station owner who finds a meteorite on his farm and hopes to sell it. In Something to Tide You Over, Richard Vickers confronts Harry Wentworth, the man involved with his wife, Becky. The Crate begins when a janitor at Horlicks University finds a wooden crate under a basement staircase. In They're Creeping Up on You, millionaire Upson Pratt, who hates insects, finds cockroaches in his sealed apartment.

- Ray Mendez, an entomologist with the American Museum of Natural History, and David Brody provided 20,000 cockroaches for the segment "They're Creeping Up on You"; in the final scene, where the room is almost filled with cockroaches, many of the apparent insects were actually nuts and raisins, as specified by Tom Savini.
- Ted Danson told The A.V. Club in 2015 that the brief shot of his character drowning underwater was made in a little aquarium tank: he climbed in wearing a wetsuit and breathed from an oxygen ventilator between takes, with a yoke of wood and fake sand making it look like his head was buried in the sand.
- Creepshow is an homage to the EC horror comics of the 1950s, such as Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror and The Haunt of Fear; to give viewers a comic book feel, Romero hired long-time effects specialist Tom Savini to replicate comic-like effects.
- Creepshow was given a four-week test release in Boston during July 1982 to get a sense of how to market it later on, and the hugely successful results convinced Warner Bros. that they had a hit on their hands.

Bravo awarded Creepshow the 99th spot on its "The 100 Scariest Movie Moments", mostly for the scene with the cockroaches bursting out of Upson Pratt's body.
