Plot summary
In October 1986, St. Louis marks Chuck Berry's 60th birthday with two shows at the Fox Theatre. Keith Richards puts the backing group together and calls on Berry's longtime pianist, Johnnie Johnson, with Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, Joey Spampinato, Steve Jordan and Bobby Keys filling out the band. Etta James, Linda Ronstadt and Julian Lennon sing with them. The cameras also follow rehearsals at Berry's home in Wentzville, a rarity for him. Berry speaks about his life and career, and members of his family appear. Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison talk about his songwriting, singing and playing, while Bruce Springsteen and the Everly Brothers also take part. A duet with John Lennon and archival footage from the early 1950s round out the portrait.
