Trailer
Plot summary
Bradley Beesley directs this documentary about the Flaming Lips, whom he first started filming as a neighbor of frontman Wayne Coyne in Oklahoma City. Interviews with the band's family and friends trace their rise from a scrappy punk act imitating the Butthole Surfers, playing chaotic early shows that once involved a live motorcycle revved onstage for sound, to a band whose orchestral pop records eventually drew celebrities to their concerts. The film sets the group's growing acclaim alongside the harder circumstances of their childhoods and the effects of drugs on the band and their families. Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd and Michael Ivins appear as themselves.
