Plot summary
Bobby Cole is eleven and lives at Sunshine Beach in California with his dog Chilly and with his father, Patrick Cole, a police detective. Patrick tells him that he has taken a job in New York City, where the two of them will live in a small apartment. Chilly is a large outdoor dog and is not house-trained, so Patrick says the dog will have to stay behind, and the family must find him a new home. Bobby has one week to prove that Chilly can be a city dog, and he and his friends set about teaching Chilly the indoor way of life.
