Plot summary
The story comes from a true case, that of Beulah Annan, and from the 1926 play by Maurine Dallas Watkins. Roxie Hart is a housewife fixated on fame. When her lover leaves her, she kills him in cold blood. Her husband, Amos Hart, is more active and more sympathetic here than in the play. Roxie tries to get him to take the blame for the killing. The murder, a brief moment before the play opens, is shown at length. Roxie is put on trial for murder.
