Clarence Burton

Biography

Clarence Burton was an American actor, dancer, and singer who began as a child in his family's vaudeville act. Born in Missouri, he grew up performing with his parents, minstrel show entertainers, and by his teens he was working in vaudeville as a dancer and baritone singer. He later branched into comedy and musical theater, with stage roles in The Telephone Girl and The Politicians, and performed with a stock company in California and Oregon. Signed into films in late 1912, he starred in 132 films from 1913 to 1932. Burton frequently collaborated with Cecil B. DeMille and became known for his death scenes, often playing characters who met violent ends in over 100 films. He was also cast in the Paramount film The Jacklins. He died in 1933.
