Plot summary
Paul, Karen, Bert, Jeff and Marcy, five college friends, have rented a remote cabin in the woods for a week-long vacation. They pick up supplies at a general store; there Dennis, the manager's mentally impaired son, bites Paul's hand without warning. In the same woods, a hermit named Henry finds his dog dead from a mysterious illness and gets sprayed with its blood. Bert goes out to shoot squirrels and accidentally shoots Henry, then panics and flees without telling the others. Later that evening, a man calling himself Grim arrives at the group's campfire with his Belgian Malinois, Dr. Mambo.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Producers Cassian Elwes and Evan Astrowsky conceived of remaking Cabin Fever after a chance encounter with Eli Roth at the Academy Awards bar between awards.
- Director Travis Zariwny reworked Eli Roth and Randy Pearlstein's original script, making the characters more likable, changing the deaths, cutting the comedy, and trimming the page count from 124 to 92.
- Travis Zariwny gender-swapped Deputy Winston in his remake, casting frequent collaborator Louise Linton, because he saw no other way to emulate Giuseppe Andrews's performance in the earlier Cabin Fever films.
