Warner Baxter
Biography
Warner Baxter was an American film actor whose career ran from the 1910s to the 1940s. Born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1889, he entered pictures as an extra in 1914 and landed his first leading part in Sheltered Daughters in 1921. He often played charming Latin bandit characters in Westerns, most famously the Cisco Kid in In Old Arizona (1928), the first all-talking Western, which brought him the Academy Award for Best Actor. His other films included West of Zanzibar (1928), 42nd Street (1933), Broadway Bill (1934), and The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936), which Leonard Maltin called his finest work. In the 1940s he was best known for the Crime Doctor series, playing Dr. Robert Ordway. He received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
