Plot summary
Bill Shakespeare is a hopeless lute player who has also tried contemporary dance, and he has never found his calling. Leaving his family and his home in Stratford-upon-Avon, he sets out for London to make his name as a playwright. His story unfolds in the years scholars call Shakespeare's lost years, the period between his obscurity in Stratford-upon-Avon and his fame in London. The tale involves murderous kings, spies and lost loves, and there is a plot against the life of Queen Elizabeth I. King Philip II of Spain, Sir Francis Walsingham and Christopher Marlowe are among the characters in it.
