Plot summary

A hundred years after Ridley Freeborn defeated him, Damodar walks the earth undead, cursed by his old master Profion and driven insane. He wants revenge on Izmir and on the descendants of his old enemies. Two dark-talon lizardfolk shamans help him find the Orb of Faluzure, tied to the dragon god imprisoned beneath Saragasso's mountains. The orb lifts his curse, and he sets about waking the dragon to raze the kingdom. Berek, once the king's guard captain, and his wife Melora, a novice mage, investigate poison gas in Saragasso's caves and find the dragon asleep. Melora tells Oberon, head of the Mages' Council, what she learns of Faluzure, and while she searches for the orb by magic, Damodar's curse begins to kill her. She hides it from Berek, whom the King charges with gathering a party.
