Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Warner Bros. heavily edited and censored Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre and its own executives' objections to the content, pushing the release from Halloween 2000 to December 12, 2000.
  • SPOILERThe most dramatic edit changed how the Joker dies: in the original version Tim Drake fires a handgun loaded with a flag that impales him, while in the version first released he is electrocuted after becoming tangled in water tubing.
  • Nearly two years after the film's initial release, and after online petitions, Warner Home Video released the uncut and unaltered version of Return of the Joker.
  • The PG-13-rated original version was the first animated Batman film to get a PG-13 from the Motion Picture Association, and the only PG-13 film ever released under Warner Bros' now-defunct Warner Bros. Family Entertainment label.
  • SPOILERA comic adaptation of the film, released in February 2001 and drawn by Craig Rousseau, had to redo the page depicting the Joker's death to match the edits made to the movie.
  • Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker was the first Batman direct-to-video animated film to use digital ink and paint.
